Senior Consultant and Trainer

Gail E Murphy (B.App.Sc. (Library and Information Studies), P. Grad. Dip. Adv. Inf. & Lib. Stud.), is Information Enterprises Australia Pty Ltd (IEA) Senior Consultant and Trainer. Her main role is to provide consulting services to clients and to develop and present IEA's programme of records management courses.

Gail holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Library and Information Studies) from the West Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT, 1981) and a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Library & Information Studies from Curtin University of Technology (1985). She has completed a Human Resource Consulting Entry Level qualification from the RCSA. Her experience within the records management industry is extensive, having worked within the public and private sectors for over twenty years.

As IEA's senior consultant, she works with clients, ranging from small businesses to large international corporations, on a range of projects. These projects include records management reviews; implementation of review recommendations; development of retention and disposal schedules; strategy and policy formulation; records management compliance audits; development of user and operator manuals; records management classification schemes and the analysis of business processes.

Gail presents the majority of IEA's records management courses as part of the company's commercial training programme or by request in house on a client's premises. Having completed a number of accreditation courses in training, Gail has also completed her Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. Having a great interest in the promotion of records management as a profession and into the workplace, Gail has had the opportunity to present papers at various events including:

·The Legal Requirements for Keeping Records in the Private Sector, for the Records Management Association - South Australian Branch Archives and Records Management Week (2004)
· A View From The Outside a presentation on the experience of assisting government agencies in the development of Recordkeeping Plans for the first anniversary of the launch of the State Records Commission's Principles and Standards. (2003)
· Where Have All The Records Managers Gone? A View from the West Coast for the Archives and Records Education Stakeholders Forum (ARES) (2003).
· Chaired the Records Survivor Seminar: Can you meet the challenge from the potential Enemy of the Record? Protect, Preserve, Prevent Seminar ARM Week (2003)

Gail has had a long association with the Records Management Association (WA Branch) having held the position of Branch Councillor, member of the Archives and Records Week organising committee; mentoring Sub-Committee; Education and Programmes sub committee and member of the organising committee for the RMAA 14th National Convention in 1997, and editor of the WA Branch Newsletter. One of the highlights was building an Archive Box Tower in the Hay Street Mall with Kye O'Donnell from the City of Perth during Archives and Records Management Week 2002!

In her spare time, Gail enjoys getting out onto the water usually with fishing rod in hand. In addition, she enjoys four wheel driving, gardening, travel, wine and food appreciation, genealogy, meditation and shopping.
